Voluntary Term Life Insurance  NCPERS (IMRF Members Only)

The City offers an optional supplemental life insurance program for employees who wish to enroll. The National Conference on Public Employee Retirement Systems (NCPERS) Public Employee Financial Protection Plan provides coverage for employees, spouses/domestic partners, and eligible children. You must be an IMRF pension member to be eligible for this plan. Coverage is administered by Prudential through Member Benefits.

Cost:
$16 per month ($8 per pay period over 24 paychecks)

Coverage Includes:

  • Employee coverage

  • Spouse/domestic partner coverage

  • Eligible dependent children

  • No medical exam or health questions required when enrolling during the annual enrollment period

 

Enrollment Period:
Enrollment takes place once each year during the fall (October–November), with coverage effective January 1 of the following year. Payroll deductions begin with the first payroll in December. Employees who are already enrolled do not need to re-enroll each year unless they wish to make a change.

Student Loan Protection Benefit:
Also included for NCPERS participants: if you are age 45 or younger, approved for a waiver of premium due to total disability, and have an outstanding student loan balance, the program may reimburse student loan amounts up to $50,000, subject to plan terms.

 

Dependent Eligibility:
Unmarried children up to age 26 are covered, including adopted children, stepchildren, and foster children who depend on you for support. Dependents in military service are not eligible.
